MGS Delta First Hours Walkthrough: Virtuous Mission & Early Snake Eater Guide
And the opening hours of MGS Delta are dense. Not because they're hard, the game actually eases you in pretty gently, but because there's so much optional stuff packed into the early areas that you can miss half the useful gear without realizing it. Here's exactly what to do in your first session. ## Before You Start: Settings
Turn off motion blur. And the UE5 implementation has aggressive motion blur that makes tracking enemies in the jungle harder than it needs to be. If you're on PS5 or Xbox Series X, use the 60fps performance mode. But the 30fps quality mode looks gorgeous but the frame pacing during CQC fights is rough. On PC, cap your FPS at 60 if you're getting stutters, the engine has some weird behavior above 120. Enable subtitles. Several radio calls have important gameplay information buried in the dialogue, and the accents can be thick. Speaking of radio calls, there's a toggle for "radio interruptions" in the settings. Leave it on. But the support team's random calls are half the game's personality. ## Virtuous Mission: Minute by Minute
0:00, First drop. Snake lands in a swamp. Major Zero's voice comes through the radio. The first thing you should do is open your survival viewer (pause menu) and check Snake's stats. Notice the stamina bar next to health. That's your real resource, it governs everything from aim steadiness to swimming duration or whatever works.. 0:05, Move north through the marsh. There's a crocodile in the water. Stay on the shore. The croc is not a joke, it'll kill Snake in one grab. Seriously. Later in the game you can kill and eat them, but right now you don't have the firepower. 0:10, First guard encounter. A single soldier patrols the narrow path ahead. Crawl through the grass on the left side, wait for him to face away, then grab him. The CQC grab is performed by pressing the CQC button without moving the left stick (in New Style) or holding circle (in Classic). Once grabbed, press L3 to interrogate. He'll mark the facility location. Then choke him out by tapping the CQC button rapidly. Don't kill him. Guards you kill show up again later. 0:15, Supply drop. Major Zero marks a supply cache on your map. The Mk22 tranq pistol is here along with suppressor rounds. Grab everything. The tranq pistol is your primary weapon for the next 20+ hours. 0:20, Rassvet ruins. Not kidding. The abandoned facility where Sokolov is hiding. Approach from the east side, there's a broken wall you can climb through instead of using the main gate. Inside, look up. There's a Kerotan frog on a ceiling beam in the church. Shoot it now. You can't come back to this area after the mission. Crossbow bolts and RPG ammo are hidden in the collapsed rooms on the ground floor. 0:30, Ocelot unit cutscene. After finding Sokolov, the Ocelot unit ambushes you. You get the famous revolver juggling scene. After the cutscene, you regain control briefly. Don't try to fight Ocelot, he's scripted to escape. Focus on the GRU soldiers. 0:35, The Boss appears. The bridge scene. You know the one. After the cutscene, you get the revival pill from The Boss. It works. Equip it immediately (survival viewer, items tab). You'll need it much later. 0:45, Virtuous Mission ends. Snake is recovered by a CIA extraction team. This entire sequence is the prologue or whatever works.. ## Operation Snake Eater: The Real Start
1:00, Jungle re-entry. One week passes in-game. You drop back into Dremuchij with the same starting gear plus whatever you picked up during Virtuous Mission. The Mk22 should be in your inventory. If you missed it, you can find another at the first supply drop in this area. Hunt. Right now. Before you advance the story. Use the tranq pistol on snakes, frogs, and birds. Each animal gives stamina-restoring food. Cooked food restores more than raw food, but cooking creates smoke that guards can see. Trust me on this one. If you're near patrols, eat raw and deal with the lower restoration. 1:20, First fork in the road. You'll reach a split path. The signs point to Bolshaya Past (south, minefield) and the northern mountain route (guards, vehicles). Take the southern route. The minefield looks scary but thermal goggles (which you get in Phase 3) make it trivial. Without goggles, go prone and crawl slowly, the mines have a visible metal ring before they detonate. 1:40, The Pain boss fight. The abandoned factory. Refer to the detailed boss guide, but the short version: shotgun, aim for the head between hornet attacks, treat poison with serum in the CURE menu. Non-lethal gives Hornet Stripe camo. 2:00, Chyornaya Peschera cave. After the boss, you enter a cave system. I learned this the hard way. Equip the torch attachment (R3 while aiming). Behind the waterfall about halfway through: crawl through the water surface to find a hidden alcove with extra rations, a suppressor, and a GA-KO duck on a rock. 2:30, First thermal goggles. In the Ponizovje area after the cave, there's a supply room in the northwest corner. Thermal goggles are on a shelf. These are arguably the most important piece of equipment for the rest of the game, they reveal enemies, traps, and The End's footprints. 3:00, The Fear fight. You'll know it when the screen gets quiet and a crossbow bolt flies past your head. Goggles on, shotgun ready, keep moving. The Spider camo is worth the non-lethal effort. Took me forever to figure out.
